Joomla! 2.5 Support ended! Upgrade to Joomla! 3 now.

After long announcements the future development and support for Joomla! 2.5 has officially been terminated by the Joomla! core team already on December 31st, 2014. There will be no further updates for Joomla! 2.5 and an upgrade to Joomla! 3 is strongly recommended.

Due to this reason we also terminate the support for our products in combination with Joomla! 2.5 and therefore also for Virtuemart 2 & JoomShopping 3 from now on. In the future all products will be provided exclusively for Joomla! 3 in combination with Virtuemart 3 or JoomShopping 4.

In this article we shortly explain you the process of the upgrade so your website will be up to date in the future. Please note that this is not a detaile step-by-step instruction since many factors have to be taken care of during such an update and that they may be different from website to website.

Preparation of the upgrade

First, we strongly recommend you not to perform the upgrade on your live site directly but to use a development area. Many problems and complications can occur and in most cases they also will appear. If it is not possible for you to create a development area you should at least create a complete backup of the current website and also check this backup for functionality. In case you are not confident to do the upgrade on your own or it is a too large time effort for yourself you can hire us for this task. Therefore simply send us a request and we will create a non-binding offer for you based on your information.

First steps on the upgrade

It is important to check the installed extensions as components, plugins, modules, etc. for their compatibility in combination with Joomla! 3 before doing the upgrade. In case that an extension is not compatible with Joomla! it either has to be replaced or even removed. In any case at least the latest available version should be installed on your system to prevent problems.

Important information: For some extensions also the order or the upgrades matters! Virtuemart 3, for example, has to be installed before the Upgrade to Joomla! 3.

Upgrade to Joomla! 3

The Joomla! upgrade can be performed using the update function in the backend directly. You can find a detailed description of the process as well in the Joomla! docs as also on various other websites. This step should only be performed as soon as all extensions have been updated to the latest version.

Upgrade the Yagendoo products

Upgrading the Yagendoo products directly our of the Joomla! 2.5 backend is unfortunately not possible since it would lead to problems. For this reason the Yagendoo eCommerce Suite exclusively shows the latest versions of the respective products for Joomla! 2.5, not the ones for Joomla! 3. In our documentation overview you find a list of your purchased products first. As soon as you have clicked on one of the products you will be referred to the matching documentations. There you select the link "Installation" on the left side and follow the instructions step-by-step, please.

After the installation you should open each product in the backend of your site once and save the settings so the correct settings will be saved and used.

Final steps of the upgrade

In the end you should check your entire website for problems and take care of technical issues as well as visual problems and differences. We recommend to especially take care of the functionality of the onlineshop and check it extensive multiple times. As soon as all problems have been solved you can dump the changes to your live site. At this point you should note that new order or customer data may have been created on the live site during the migration process.
