Wordpress Privacy Policies Plugin Documentation

System Requirements

Wordpress Version

The Yagendoo SPP plug-in has been developed and tested for Wordpress version 3.0.5+ and higher.

PHP Version

Minimum requirement PHP5! The primary development platform for all add-ons by Yagendoo is PHP version 5 or higher. If you use PHP4, this won't be a problem, as your web host usually allows you to update the PHP version to PHP5.

JavaScript and Cookies

To be able to correctly use the plug-in on your website, your users have to make sure that their browsers support JavaScript and allow the use of cookies.

Installing and configuring the Yagendoo Privacy plug-in for Wordpress is very easy. In the following, you will learn how to install, configure and use the plug-in.

1. Installing the Yagendoo.com SPP Plug-In

Copying Files

To be able to correctly install the Yagendoo.com SPP plug-in for Wordpress, you have to copy the files and folders contained in the ZIP archive of the plug-in into the Wordpress directory "/wp-content/plugins/".

Installing the Plug-In

Log-on to the Admin area of your Wordpress installation. Normally, you can access this area by calling up the following address in your web browser:

http://www.yourdomain.tld/wp-admin/

Wordpress Logon Screen

On the "Plug-Ins" tab, select the "Plug-Ins" menu item. You should now see an entry for the Yagendoo.com SPP plug-in. By clicking on "Activate" underneath the entry, you install the plug-in in your Wordpress web log.

Wordpress Plugin View Screen

After the installation of the plug-in, the following message should appear.

Wordpress Plugin Active Screen

The plug-in has successfully been installed and can now be configured.

2. Configuring the Yagendoo.com SPP Plug-In

After having installed the plug-in, a new tab called "Yagendoo SPP" will appear in the left side bar of the Admin area. On the tab, you will find menu items for configuring the plug-in and maintaining scripts.

General Configuration

In the "Yagendoo SPP" menu item, you can define general settings. On the one hand, you can store the privacy note here which will be shown to all visitors of your website in the form of a pop-up in the web log (you may use HTML here). On the other hand, you can use the "Use privacy note instead of widgets if the privacy policies have been rejected" check box to configure whether a user who rejects the privacy policies will receive an error message (see Error Message in the documentation) or not. And via the "Popup Theme" drop-down list, you can select the layout of the pop-up containing the privacy policies.

Adding Scripts

To be able to use the plug-in correctly, you have to store the scripts of the external services you want to use in your web log. Select the "Create Script" menu item. You can define the name of the script (only used internally), the script (HTML or JavaScript), and the status of the script. By clicking on "Save", you create the script.

Create Tool Tag

Maintaining Scripts

Under "Scripts", you can then maintain the created scripts. Move your mouse over the script table entries to edit or delete them. This table also shows the short codes and PHP codes for integrating scripts into your blog front-end (see "Integrating Scripts" in the documentation).

3. Integrating Scripts

By using this plug-in, you do not have to integrate external scripts directly into the theme or the content anymore. Tools are now entered into the data privacy plug-in and instead of external scripts, the tags generated by the data privacy plug-in will be integrated. This is necessary to ensure that the plug-in is compliant with all services.

Short Codes

You can directly integrate the scripts you have stored into a Wordpress article, web page or widget. All you need to do is to enter the short code of the scripts (which you will find in the "Admin" menu on the "Yagendoo SPP" tab in the "Scripts" menu item) at the position where you want the script to appear in your article / your Wordpress page.

Example: [yspp id="1"]

PHP Codes

If you want to integrate scripts directly into the template, enter the PHP code of the script (which you will find in the "Admin" menu on the "Yagendoo SPP" tab in the "Scripts" menu item) at the position where you want the script to appear.

Example: <?php echo YagendooSocialPrivacyPolicies::getScript(1);?>

Error Messages

If you have enabled Use privacy note instead of widgets if the privacy policies have been rejected in the Admin menu under "Yagendoo SPP", an error message will appear instead of the widgets created by the scripts.

Privacy Not Accepted

Users that have rejected the data policy before can later accept them by clicking on the "Change Privacy Settings" link.

4. Privacy Note

Privacy Information of the Pop-Up

After the installation of the plug-in, a privacy note is pre-defined in the plug-in. The module also provides you with a text you can enter into your "Data Privacy" page. These texts have been created in cooperation with our lawyers, IT-Recht Kanzlei ResMedia from Mainz, Germany. These data privacy texts cover the use of different services and applications. If the legal requirements regarding this subject will change in the future, we will provide you with updates of the plug-in and updates of the data privacy texts, of course. However, even though we have been very thorough creating the data privacy notes, we cannot assume liability for the completeness, correctness, and up-to-date-ness of the texts. Thus, the data privacy texts might be the basis for legal security; however, neither we nor Kanzlei ResMedia will assume liability in case of warning letters. In individual cases, using the plug-in and the mentioned text will not be a substitute to getting legal advice. If you need legal advice, Kanzlei ResMedia will be happy to assist you.

Privacy Information of the Website

In addition to the privacy information in the confirmation box, which appears when calling up the page and which has to be confirmed, you have to enhance the privacy policy on your website (imprint or privacy page) by another section. The following text module can be used, may be included on your website and may be used for free:

Social Media Plug-Ins

On some of our websites, we use social media plug-ins (e.g. Facebook, Twitter, Flattr, LinkedIn, Google Buzz etc.). You can use them to inform your friends if you like our Internet offer, inform them about contents and share contents. To use them, however, we need your prior agreement.

When you visit our website for the first time, you will be asked to confirm the use of the social media plug-ins by clicking on the "Accept" button. This automatically creates a connection to the servers of the provider of the individual plug-ins. Your data will be transmitted to this provider the same way as if you were visiting their websites – even if you are not a user of this provider and do not click on the buttons of this provider. Depending upon the plug-in, the following data might be transmitted as well:

  • IP address

  • Your name

  • Browser version and operating system
  • Original of the visitor (referrer) if they have followed a link Screen resolution
  • Installed plug-ins such as Flash or Adobe Reader URL of our website on which the social plug-in is integrated.

If you decide against the use of the social media plug-ins, click on the "Do not Accept" button. In this case, no data will be transmitted to the social media provider(s). You will not be able to use plug-ins as, for example, Facebook's "Like" button.

If you have first confirmed the use of plug-ins and then would like to cancel the data transmission again, you have to delete the respective cookies on your PC. For that purpose, you have to adjust the security settings in the browser you use (e.g. Internet Explorer, Firefox, Google Chrome, Safari). Please refer to the "Help" section in your browser for more information on how to do this.

Please take note that it may not be up-to-date anymore at this point in time. Please refer to the website of our cooperation partner, Kanzlei ResMedia, for the most up-to-date version of the texts.
