eCommerce shopping and shipping: A look at how people shop online

The company Lab43 from Chicago has published an interessant info graphic regarding the topic eCommerce which we don't want to deprive of you. 500 people were asked and the answers confirm the continuously raising eCommerce trend.

Almost 73% of the respondents buy online and 66% even prefer the online purchase than buying in a local store.

It's particularly interesting that 45% of the respondents buy things online which they wouldn't buy in a store. This are for example books, lingerie and sextoy products.

Also interesting and in my view almost astonishing is that the majority of the respondents (62%) rarely retour products bought online. 32% of the respondents would like to transact their exchanges in a local subsidiary. A market gap for services?

96% of the respondents buy more likely if the shipping is free and 87% would buy in online shops if also the retour is free. A small path for online merchants?

Strangely only 25% of the respondents prefer a telephonically customer service. 41% prefer using eMail and 27% an online chat. Full 7% seem to be completely satisfied with their online purchase and have never contacted the customer service of an online shop.

4 of 5 respondents rather buy in an online shop if it has positive assessments from other online shops. Whether the customers trust more in the assessments on the merchant page or prefer independent provides as eKomi was unfortunately not answered.

Altogether a good signal for the eCommerce market and interesting, indeed not new but therefor now again new justified knowledge.
